If you are on the road before 8am in South Plymouth it is highly likely you have seen Matt West getting his daily run in. The lifetime Plymouth resident has been running 50 miles a week in preparation for the Boston Marathon. West is running for the Mass General Cystic Fibrosis Marathon team and is working to raise five thousand dollars. The funds directly help children with this debilitating disease. I recently spoke to Matt briefly about running and the charity.

Have you always been a runner? How did you get into it?
"I got seriously into running about a year ago. I sort of set a small goal of running a half marathon, and then after that I just kind of kept setting goals: run a marathon, run a half under 1:37, run a 5k under 20 minutes.
Why do you like it?
"It's given my life a lot of balance and purpose. I love the grind of setting a goal and getting up every day to work towards achieving it. The process is really a blast. It has permeated into other areas of my life. I feel more grounded starting a day running 10 miles before 8am"
How did you get involved with the Mass General Cystic Fibrosis Marathon team?
"A friend asked if I wanted to join the cause, and it's the pediatric unit at the hospital. I will be sponsoring one of the patients."
That is very cool, will you be doing other events like this in the future?
"Yes, I would love to do a cause for autism or something in the field of learning disabilities; I'm lucky enough to work with that population."
Plymouth Podcast would like to wish Matt the best of luck--we truly admire his tenacity and hard work toward such a good cause. We hope to speak to him again soon. You can donate to Matt's fundraiser at the link below.
